How To Arrange Playdates When You Don’t Know Other Moms

If you’re anything like me, you’re a new parent, none of your friends have kids and quite possibly you’re shy. So how do you go about arranging playdates for your babies or baby when you don’t know other moms?

Do what I did. Sign for classes at your local Gymboree, Kidville or other music program for babies. Once there, you’ll meet other moms (and dads sometimes). If you are able to establish a rapport with another mother or group of mothers, you can ask suggest getting together for a playdate either at a local park or in your home.

Also, try joining a local mother’s group:

- For mothers who live in Lower Manhattan try the Hudson River Park Mother’s Group or Bowery Babes (or both).  Bowery Babes is free to join and the Hudson River Park Mother’s Group is $55 for a one year membership.

- For mothers living in Park Slope, Brooklyn consider Park Slope Parents. Membership for one year is $35.

- For mothers living in the BX, consider Bronx New Mommies Group. It’s $12 for a six month membership.
