When my children started speaking, it didn’t take long for David and Eva to begin speaking in sentences. For Samuel it took a little longer. Now, my son who was last to speak in a sentence is first in being able to answer questions in a meaningful way. In fact, he is almost at the stage where you can have a conversation with him, which I think is astounding! Watching the development of my kids has shown me that in fact every child is different and it’s dangerous to compare kids. The child who is last in area today may be first tomorrow and vice versa. That’s why it always puzzles me … [Read more...]

Toddler Trend Alert: Magna-Tiles!
Magna-Tiles are the new developmental “it” toy for toddlers and preschoolers everywhere! I originally learned about this toy from a fellow mom, but now moms everywhere are buzzing about Magna-Tiles. Certainly one of the ways we can do that is by making time for friends. Studies show that women who spend more time with friends are healthier and live longer! So over the weekend I got together with some of my college besties to celebrate my birthday and to reconnect. Over the next few days, … [Read more...]
Making Peace With My Birthday…
Mommy Vent: I Hate It When My Husband Plays “Good Cop.”
In a lot of households moms are still taking the lead in childcare. So we see it all from our kids, the good, the bad and the ugly. A few days back, my son Samuel started playing in the kitchen while I was making breakfast. I told him not to play in the kitchen because it's dangerous. I've told him this many times before. Two seconds later he came charging back into the kitchen and almost got hurt. So I yelled at him. Needless to say I felt horrible after I yelled at him because it is not like me to do so. Before, I could process what happened, though, my husband came over, whisked him … [Read more...]
