I didn’t think I would cry on my kids’ first day at school. I didn’t think I would cry because I was pretty ready for them to go to school. In fact, the night before I could hardly sleep because I was like kid on Christmas Eve but I did end up crying and I am not sure if I will ever stop.
When we first got there I was pretty amazement at how well they were doing. They played well with other kids, engaged the teachers and seemed happy. Everything was going well. Then towards the end of the class we all gathered around for circle time. During this time the teachers asked the kids to say their name and say whether they wanted to jump or dance as their “goodbye” to the class. My Sammy was up first.
When the teacher called on him to say his name he said loudly and proudly “My name is Samuel and I want to jump.” He got up and started to jump with all his might and that’s when I started crying. I couldn’t believe how well he was doing. It was also overwhelming for me to watch him try so hard. David on the other hand wasn’t so happy about saying his name but he did tell the group my name. He said “tell them your name mommy. Your name is mommy.” Then he started jumping. Then Eva yelled out her name in excitement and started jumping with David. Then Samuel started jumping and they all jumped and chanted together.
